The project lasted from February 2008 till September 2010
The children of the Romani camp in Rho, a satellite city of Milano,
had for two years
the opportunity to attend a soccer training directed by Ines Österle once a week.
A total of 25 children, aged 6 to 12, took advantage of the training.
Many of them, especially girls, had never kicked a ball before. They
attended the training with great enthusiasm.
A highlight was probably the participation in a campaign against racism in Europe
organized by Football against Racism in Europe (FARE).
In this context an afternoon of soccer games was organized, attended by the former
professional goal keeeper Luca Squnzani. Today he is trainer expectant for young people.
He is a member of the first league FC Torino.
In addition he is a writer.
The afternoon was meant to open the training of Soccer and Roma for
Italian children, and to integrate Romani girls. Both goals were actually realized.
The project ended in September 2010 when Romani camps were closed down and
residents were relocated. The childrens' enthusiasm for soccer and sports has, however,
preserved.
The project was implemented by volunteers. Training paraphernalia were acquired
thanks to the financial support of the Palm-Stiftung in Schorndorf.
Important events were reported during the entire term of the project on this blog:
