The idea is to put the production of soccer shirts, we always
need jerseys in our projects,
into the hands of three committed Roma women in Milano. In the past few years they
learnt tailoring thanks to the support of the
NGO Opera Nomadi Milano. The sale of jerseys and other clothing by the
Jeselan company contributes to their living expenses.
Their commitment is known to Football and Roma since 2008. They
used to live in the Romani camp in Milano, where a soccer project was
carried out from 2008 to 2010.
The first soccer jersey made by the Roma tailoring group Jelesan based in Milan is finished and can be admired
within the photo! The jerseys will outfit the new soccer team in Milan (i trevigliesi), and can be
acquired by anybody (upon request). The three women (Angelina, Laura and Sanela) that are part of Jelesan
have tailored the jerseys by hand. The fabric has been sourced from a fabric producer based in the Swabian Alb.
A professor of Luzern created the paper pattern. The three Roma women cut and processed the fabric in Milan.
The project Football jerseys made in Italy has become much broader than initially expected; let alone
the effort of putting everything into practice. The result, however, is nothing to sneeze at.
